How to Up Your Search Game on LinkedIn

Many people use LinkedIn to find that ideal prospect, referral partner, client, or customer. Since the free LinkedIn account only gives you a certain number of searches each month, I wanted to introduce you to a useful search tool that you can use when you run out of your allotted searches. This site will allow you to put in your information and find what you’re looking for.

On this website, enter the country you are in, then enter a specific name or title. If you’re looking for a manager, I would type in “Area manager” or “Advanced branch manager.” When the results come up, you should take a screenshot of all the names that pop up, then head directly to LinkedIn.

The next step is to send an invitation to those prospects that interest you. However, don't send the generic "I want to connect" message. Find an area of commonality, whether you both went to the same school or you have similar interests or connections. The invitation should be personalized. Say something like “Hey, I ran across your profile and see we share some common interests and we both went to Pittsburgh. It would be great to connect, please let me know how I can be a resource for you. Best regards,...”

If you’re not on LinkedIn, you will be left out.

With an invitation like that, there is a better than 75% chance that the connection request will be accepted. Once it is accepted, send a thank you and move on to the next step, a phone call.

One more tip I wanted to share with you is the “10 before 10” strategy. It stands for 10 touches before 10 a.m. Do your searching for prospects in the morning, then send out those connection requests or go look at the people you’ve recently connected with and send them a message of interest, whether it's an invitation to an event or an interesting news article. Accomplishing the “10 before 10” strategy will help take you to the next level on LinkedIn.

If you’re not on LinkedIn, you will be left out. If you have any questions, reach me by phone or email. If we’re not connected on LinkedIn, send me a connection request with a personalized message so we can start a relationship. I look forward to hearing from you!
