There are a number of keys to getting found on LinkedIn.
My first tip is to take advantage of what LinkedIn has now allowed everyone (not just premium users) to do, and that’s having a background photo. It’s a powerful way to put your areas of expertise, contact info, and website on display.
I have a client who really took advantage by putting specific areas of expertise here; she works with attorneys helping them prep their witnesses. Her background photo actually says “Witness preparation for attorneys” and “Body language expert” as well as her phone number, website, and contact info.
If you want to take advantage of this but don’t know how to make that photo, my tip is to go to fiverr.com, where you can find someone to do it for you inexpensively.

My second tip involves your name. Instead of putting your first name in the first name box and your last name in the last name box, put both your first and last name in the first name box. Then in the last name box, put your title, in quotation marks. Use the title that you want to be found for.
Finally, make sure your profile photo is a professional photo. You’re 11 times more likely to get profile views if you use a professional profile picture! If you don’t want to spend the money to have one done by a professional photographer, go to Sears or JC Penny for a bunch of photos. It’s that simple!
Next time, we’ll talk about putting your LinkedIn summary on steroids. Remember, if you’re not LinkedIn, you will be left out!
